"Belt and Road" Boosted the Sharp Rise of Foreign-funded Companies in Yiwu
Since Oct., 2013 when China put forward the "Belt and Road" Initiative, the number of foreign-funded companies in Yiwu has been rising with the tide -- breaking through the bottleneck of 600 kept from 2008 and reaching 1,446 -- and realized leapfrog development.
According to introduction, before the end of Sept., 2013, there were 62 source countries of investment for the foreign-funded companies in Yiwu, including 28 countries along the "Belt and Road". Through over three years of development, the number of source countries of investment for the foreign-funded companies in Yiwu has increased to 97, among which 40 are along the "Belt and Road", and the newly added countries include Ukraine, Poland, and Albania from Europe, Nepal and Bangladesh from South Asia, Burma and Cambodia from Southeast Asia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan from Central Asia, and Cyprus and Qatar from West Asia.
Before the proposal of "Belt and Road" Initiative, there were 589 foreign-funded companies in Yiwu; among them, the investment of 130 companies, 22% of the total number, was from countries along the "Belt and Road". At present, there are 743 foreign-funded companies in Yiwu whose investment is from the "Belt and Road", taking up 51% of the total number. In the list of source countries (regions) of investment for the foreign-funded companies in Yiwu, the countries along the "Belt and Road" keep a strong presence and occupy 6 places in the top 10, and their rankings are Yemen (152 companies), Iraq (96 companies), Iran (71 companies), Syria (63 companies), India (58 companies), and Afghanistan (42 companies).
